Ms Shukla lays down some bare facts about the laws and the farmer’s struggle that lasted for over a year. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in a televised address, repealed the farm laws. It is also poignant to note that the decision to repeal came just before the Assembly elections in UP and Punjab. Tanvi Shukla makes it plain how farmers were not heard for decades until they decided to hold the Government to account. We are joined by Yogendra Yadav, chief of Swaraj India, who lays bare the reasons for the Government’s decision to repeal and calls it a ‘victory for democracy.’ He also adds that an ‘arrogant regime was forced to step back due to political calculations.’ Mr Sudesh Verma, the spokesperson of BJP, also weighs in and says that the ‘prime minister drunk the poison that came out from this Samudra Manthan.’ He also adds that the BJP won elections ‘even without the repealing of the farm laws.’ Anil Ghanwat, a member of the SC-appointed farm panel, also conveys his opinion on bringing and then repealing the laws. Minimum Support Prices are also discussed in detail by our esteemed panellists. Professor Santosh Mehrotra also contributes to this critical conversation.
