India has a total eligible population of 133 crores who can apply for both doses of vaccine. Karnataka ranks first among all the major states in India to administer the first dose of the covid vaccine, followed by Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh. However big states like Maharashtra only have a 36 percent vaccination rate and Uttar Pradesh has only 25 percent. Dr. Samir Kagalkar, Spokesperson, BJP-Karnataka draws the example of MP which has seen a significant number of doses despite being predominantly agrarian & rural. "We take pride in the vaccination drive in the country, he says.
