5:31Now PlayingPandit Bijrju Maharaj, India’s fondest and one of the best Kathak dancers died at his residence on Sunday, after suffering a heart attack. He was 83. Pandit Ji was the awardee of the second-highest civilian award in the country - Padma Vibhushan. He was diagnosed with kidney disease a few days ago and had been on dialysis. Birju Maharaj was also a singer par excellence, having command over Thumri, Dadra, Bhajan and Ghazal. Pandit Birju Maharaj apart from his immense contribution in the classical dance form of Kathak had also choreographed some famous Bollywood songs like 'Aan Milo Sajana' from 'Gadar: Ek Prem Katha’.
