His arrest has given rise to sharp reactions from the ruling Maharashtra Government. Senior ministers of the Agadhi Government have slammed the arrest and called it 'political vendetta.' The Dawood Ibrahim link allegedly stems from a property that one of Malik's aides brought from a close confidant of the notorious gangster. To this, NCP leader Inderpal Singh said that there is no FIR or scheduled offence against Nawab Malik. No summons was served to him. His arrest is unconstitutional and illegal.
