Lavrov’s visit assumes importance in the sense that India’s other engagements in recent times, barring telephone conversations between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi’s visit to India, have been with the countries that are opposing Russia and have imposed sanctions on Russia since the start of the war. Lavrov is expected to brief the Indian officials on the war. It implies that India has an opportunity to understand the Russian narrative.
