4:24Now PlayingAmidst the deepening economic and political crisis in Sri Lanka, the opposition is trying to reunite the like-minded members of the parliament against President Gotabaya Rajapaksa. Adding to the citizen's protest and demands, the opposition, too now, is seeking Rajapaksa's impeachment from the office. Citizens have started camping outside the President's office in Colombo. And the voices only seem to be growing louder.
Even though the crisis caught attention just weeks ago, Sri Lankans have been suffering for months. Long-standing queues for fuel, cooking gas, food, medicine and all sorts of basic amenities have led to massive anti-government protests in various parts of the island nation. Following this, more than 40 Sri Lankan citizens have fled to India to seek refuge.
