2:21Now PlayingA petition has been lodged in India's Supreme Court challenging the installation of the National Emblem atop the new Parliament. According to the petition, the Central Government has "manifested flagrant arbitrariness in violating the sacredness of the state Emblem" by changing its design.
"The Indian state symbol is the signature of the Republic of India's identity. We, the Indians, own the Republic of India. When this identity is harmed, the citizens' national feelings suffer "reads the petition.
The Prime Minister revealed the State Emblem, which was cast on the roof of the new Parliament building earlier this month.
Several opposition parties have questioned the expression of the four lions displayed in the State Emblem, alleging that the Modi administration violated the Constitution by defacing it.
