2:34Now PlayingPMLA Act: SC has agreed to take a relook at its own judgment upholding the constitutional validity of the PMLA. The review plea was filed by Congress leader Karti Chidambaram. On Wednesday, the Supreme Court decided to hear a petition for a review of a ruling from July 27 that upheld the main changes made to the Prevention of Money Laundering Act in open court (PMLA). A review bench posted the request for an oral hearing on August 25. "The request for an oral hearing is approved. Karti Chidambaram, a Lok Sabha member, filed the review petition. The July verdict shifted the burden of proof of innocence from the prosecution to the accused, giving the government and the Enforcement Directorate virtually unrestricted powers of summons, arrest, and raids. It also made bail nearly impossible.
