29:19Now PlayingIn this episode of The Urban Debate, Shreya Dhoundial will be discussing women's safety in urban India. According to the National Crime Record Bureau data for 2021 on crimes against women, Delhi remains the most unsafe city in the country followed by Mumbai & Bengaluru.
Delhi recorded 13,892 cases of crimes against women in 2021, a significant surge of more than 40% compared to 2020 when the figure was 9,782, the data showed. Delhi was followed by the financial capital Mumbai, which saw 5,543 such instances, and Bengaluru with 3,127 cases.
We are joined by panelists who will share their views on this.
"Where is the political will at the Centre and State level, why are these governments not governing for the women?" asks Karuna Nundy, Advocate
Meanwhile, Former IPS office Yashovardhan Jha Azad says, "It's a failure in terms of shoddy prosecution and sheer lack of the forensic infrastructure." "NCRB data is reporting of crime against women. Are we even discussing crimes against women? We are not," says Shamina Shafiq, ex-member of NCW.
