According to Maharashtra officials, the state had advanced in its negotiations with the JV to build a plant there, but it was unable to secure the project's location. Prime Minister Narendra Modi hailed the move as a crucial milestone in advancing India's chip manufacturing objectives when the Gujarat government and Vedanta-Foxconn signed a Memorandum of Understanding on Tuesday to establish a semiconductor factory in the state.
