This time, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) are at odds over permission to perform Chhath Puja. BMC has denied NCP leader Rakhi Jadhav permission to hold the Puja at the Acharya Prahlad Keshav Atre ground in Ghatkopar East but has granted permission to the Atal Samajik Sanstha for the same location. The Sanstha is controlled by the local BJP karyakarta. The huge ground in Ghatkopar will now be marked for the chhath puja celebrations in order to create an artificial lake on the ground for the people to continue their chhath rituals on 30 October.
