15:20Now PlayingIn this episode of Beyond The Headlines, the host Tamanna Inamdar will be discussing how in the northern parts of the nation, including the capital Delhi, the subject of rising air pollution is a contentious one. The Supreme Court has now been consulted on the issue. But a very significant fact—that Mumbai's air is more harmful than Delhi's has come to light. South Mumbai's air became more hazardous than Delhi's due to winds from the sea, a decrease in wind speed, and the movement of many automobiles. South Mumbai's Air Quality Index (AQI) reached 345 points. In contrast, Delhi's air quality coordinate was 331 yesterday. Mumbai's Colaba was deemed to have the worse air. In this location, a 325 air quality index was discovered. The third-ranked Bandra Kurla Complex's Air Quality Index was determined to be 314 here, whereas it was discovered to be 306 in Malad. They are not distant from Andheri as well. In Andheri, the air quality index was reported to be 259 overall. Serious health issues first appear when the air quality index starts to rise. Asthma and other respiratory illnesses emerge from this.
We are joined by a few panelists.
"Since last 30 days, there has been no 'good' or 'satisfactory' air quality days in Mumbai," said Dr Gufran Beig, Founder Project Director SAFAR.
"There has been an increase in cases of respiratory infection, people's cough is taking a longer time to get better," said Sarthak Rastogi, Consultant Pulmonology at S L Raheja Hospital-Fortis.
"Mumbai needs urban planning, we didn't control development of habitat around the refineries," said Dr. Sudhir Krishna, Former Secretary Ministry of Urban Development.
