Before the IOC session in Mumbai in 2023, Thakur stated the government will speak with the Indian Olympic Association (IOA). 40 years after its previous hosting of the event, India was chosen to host the IOC (International Olympic Committee) session in May–June 2023. Even if host cities in the past have experienced less positive economic impact than anticipated, the Sports Minister is certain that India would be able to hold the Olympics.
