13:07Now PlayingIn this episode of The Urban Debate, the host Shreya Dhoundial will be discussing how over 60 families living in damaged homes in the sinking town of Joshimath have been relocated to temporary relief centres, according to a top official who announced the designation of the area as a landslide-subsidence zone on Sunday. More households must be evacuated—at least 90 more. According to Garhwal Commissioner Sushil Kumar, relief centres have been established by the local government at four to five locations throughout the Himalayan town. In the meantime, Chamoli District Magistrate (DM) Himanshu Khurana visited impacted homes door to door to assess the degree of the damage and urged residents of homes with cracks to relocate to the relief facilities. Joshimath has been separated into three zones: "Danger," "Buffer," and "Completely safe." To determine the risk and buffer zones in the area, the administration is conducting surveys.
