3:20Now PlayingThe Supreme Court announced on Tuesday that it will begin hearings on petitions related to the Maharashtra political crisis caused by the political party Shiv Sena's split on February 14. Senior advocate Kapil Sibal, appearing for the Uddhav Thackeray Shiv Sena, told a five-judge constitution bench headed by Chief Justice DY Chandrachud that he will seek referral of the cases to a seven-judge bench to reconsider a 2016 judgment on the powers of assembly speakers to deal with disqualification petitions. Sibal had requested that the matter be referred to a seven-judge bench in order to reconsider an earlier Supreme Court decision.
