17:31Now PlayingLaws governing surrogacy in India have been debated. A Supreme Court petition has contested an existing law that forbids unmarried women between the ages of 35 and 45 from using surrogacy services. In order to get the Centre's perspective on the matter, the Supreme Court has now written to them. In order to prevent the practise from turning into a business, laws governing surrogacy were modified a while back. In actuality, the petitioner in this instance brought up a very important problem with this. A few panelists join us to express their views on this issue. “This is a regressive mindset which doesn't approve of a woman being independent financially & emotionally without marriage,” says Shamina Shafiq, Ex Member NCW. “This shows an old patriarchy mindset. All we need to check is if a person is a fit parent, doesn't matter if they are single," says Geeta Luthra, Senior Advocate.
