Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena earlier approved the plan to demolish nine "unauthorised" religious structures along the future Delhi-Saharanpur Expressway after the Delhi administration submitted the dossier authorising their destruction. Manish Sisodia, the deputy chief minister, pleaded with Saxena on Monday to stop demolishing religious buildings for various infrastructure projects because they were 40 to 90 years old and there were police complaints that doing so could lead to a law-and-order crisis. In a ruling on March 14, 2022, the Delhi High Court noted that the relevant government was "duty bound" to take down any illegal structures that might be on public property. Listen In!
