This will be Xi's first visit to Russia since the Ukraine war. The report of the upcoming visit comes at a time when China is backing itself to broker peace in Ukraine. Xi-Putin summit will also be part of China's effort to play an active role in the war like the US and UK. China will also use the summit to reiterate calls that nuclear weapons should not be used, another report said. In February, Putin stated that Xi's visit to Russia has been agreed but the date is uncertain. Meanwhile, on the other hand the meeting will raise more 'Western eyebrows' over China's involvement in the war. China has repeatedly said it wants peace in Ukraine but been countered by the US.
