In this episode of News @ 7, host Afrida Rahman Ali will discuss how Cochin International Airport Ltd. (CIAL) has been ordered by the District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission (DCDRC), Ernakulam, to compensate a customer for Rs 16,000 who had to board a flight while soaking wet. The lack of a cover on the step ladder used to board the aircraft meant that the passenger got completely soaked by the rain. The panel, which was made up of president D.B. Binu and members V. Ramachandran and Sreevidhia T.N. and issued the ruling, accepted a claim for damages made by T.G.N. Kumar of Kochi. We are joined by a few panelists who will be expressing their views on this issue. "It is the first time that an airport has been penalised." Usually, in cases of consumer complaints, when passengers approach the court, the airlines are punished without looking into the fact that they were responsible," stated Sarosh Damania, an aviation lawyer.
