Manipur On The Edge | HM Visits Riot-Hit Areas | Cong Seeks High Level Probe | Beyond The Headline

In this episode of Beyond The Headline, host Tamanna Inamdar will discuss how 27 days since the first incidence of violence in Manipur where two groups clashed. In these days several homes have been destroyed. Villages burnt down and lives lost. Amit Shah, the Union Home Minister, travelled to Churachandpur on Tuesday to meet with Kuki civil society groups. Churachandpur was the scene of some of the worst riots during the recent ethnic strife that erupted in Manipur earlier this month. Shah met with church leaders and intellectuals from the Kuki community, among others, to learn about their grievances and find solutions to end the violence between Meiteis and Kukis in the northeastern state. Meanwhile, the Congress party demanded that a high-level panel with a sitting or recently retired Supreme Court justice as its chairman look into the bloody riots in Manipur. A few panelists join us to express their views on this issue. “Semblance of trust has to be built between people and Armed Forces in order to restore peace,” stated Thongkholal Haokip, Writer.
