In this episode of The Urban Debate, host Samia Kapoor will discuss how The killing of a 16-year-old girl in the National Capital, which was reportedly committed by her boyfriend, has reignited discussion of the "bystander effect." Sakshi, a 16-year-old woman, was fatally stabbed on the street in Delhi's Shahbad Dairy area by a teenager called Sahil. Sahil, 20, works as an AC mechanic. After committing the act, he fled. He was taken into custody by police in Bulandshahr. Sahil has been placed into 24-hour police custody. The violent killing, in which the victim was stabbed and bashed, took place in broad daylight on Saturday night. Images from the incident show individuals moving in and out of the shot, but no one is seen stepping in to assist the victim. How, while such a horrifying event was taking place right in front of their eyes, could individuals manage to keep silent? Why wasn't he stopped by anyone? Although specialists claim it is obvious why the audience did not stop him when considering the psychology of the crowd, everyone is startled by these individuals' actions. Actually, the bystander effect is what it is known as in psychology. We are joined by a few panelists expressing their views on this issue. “This is a concept which is applicable to very big cities, metropolitan cities. Had this incidence taken place in a village in U.P or a small Kasba. The man would have been lynched,” stated Arvind Kumar Jain, Former DGP UP.
