25:46Now PlayingIn this episode of Beyond The Headline, host Tamanna Inamdar will discuss how students in Class 10 will no longer study the periodic table, democracy, or energy sources from textbooks provided by the government. As part of a "rationalisation" designed to lessen the "burden on students," the whole chapters on the topics currently stand erased. The exclusion of the theory of evolution from the Class 10 curriculum earlier this year caused a great deal of anxiety. Further reductions, including the elimination of a chapter on the periodic table, have been disclosed in recently published textbooks by the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT). Chapters on sustainable environmental practises and energy sources are among the subjects that were removed from the science textbook. Following the most recent revision, whole chapters on democracy, threats to democracy, and political parties were also removed for Class 10 students. We are joined by a few panelists expressing their views on this issue. “Well, yes of course they can learn about it somewhere else. Well, that’s in fact the third point that I would like to make. One must not only depend upon school textbooks,” stated Meeta Sengupta, Education Strategy Advisor.
