17:56Now PlayingIn this episode of The Urban Debate, host Shreya Dhoundial will discuss how the cyclone is expected to intensify into an "extremely severe cyclonic storm" during the next 12 hours. On June 15, Cyclone Biparjoy is expected to make landfall anywhere between Karachi, Pakistan, and the Kutch area of Gujarat, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). Additionally, an orange alert has been issued for Gujarat's Saurashtra and Kutch beaches. PM Modi convened a high-level meeting on Monday to assess the situation and gauge readiness. As the storm grew stronger, several Air India flights out of Mumbai were either postponed or cancelled. The IMD has also forecasted that on Wednesday, there will likely be isolated areas of heavy to very heavy rainfall across the Kutch, Devbhumi Dwarka, Porbandar, Jamnagar, Rajkot, Junagarh, and Morbi districts of Saurashtra and Kutch. Additionally, the meteorological service has issued a "thunderstorm" notice for a few coastal Maharashtra districts. We are joined by Mrutyunjay Mohapatra, DG, IMD who will be expressing his views on this issue. “We're not expecting any direct impact of Cyclone Biparjoy in Mumbai,” stated Mrutyunjay Mohapatra, DG, India Meteorological Department.
