The decision was taken to facilitate the ongoing metro rail works and to cater to the local needs of the people. The Navalur toll plaza was the last one operating on OMR, which is also known as Rajiv Gandhi Salai. The residents and activists of OMR have been demanding the closure of the toll plaza for a long time, citing traffic congestion and poor maintenance.
