Twice, from December 1970 to June 1971 and December 1977 to April 1979, Thakur was the chief minister of Bihar. On January 24, 1924, Karpoori Thakur was born in Pitaunjhia village, in the Samastipur district of Bihar. 'Karpuri Gramme' is the new name of the village. Karpoori Thakur joined the All India Students' Federation (AISF) when he was finishing his education because he was inspired by Indian nationalism. In India, the AISF is the most established student group.
