Russia launched a missile attack on Odesa overnight on August 9, with multiple waves of missiles striking the southern Ukrainian port city, according to Ukrainian officials. Ukraine’s Air Force issued an attack warning at around 3:30 a.m., followed by explosions and further missile activity later in the night. Sehrii Lysak, head of the Odesa City Military Administration, said buildings were damaged in several districts, while emergency crews responded to fires across the city. Footage posted on social media showed firefighters battling blazes at residential buildings and burning vehicles, although the full extent of the damage was not immediately clear. Odesa, a strategically important Black Sea port near Russian-occupied Crimea, has faced intensified Russian drone and missile attacks this summer. Previous strikes have also targeted port infrastructure and vessels operating through the region.
