Eyewitness videos released on Thursday (December 14) showed chaotic scenes in a Beijing subway after two train carriages broke away from each other, leaving passengers stranded and 30 people injured.
According to Beijing's metro and transportation authorities, the two subway train carriages broke apart due to a "breakdown". The station was shut down to evacuation the trapped passengers.
In the footage, passengers stood in the dark as they waited for help in the crowded carriage. A woman who appeared to have fainted was seen receiving help from fellow passengers.
Reuters was able to locate the video from the train layout, features in the surrounding infrastructures, vegetation and skyscrapers matching to satellite and file images. A statement posted by Beijing's metro and transportation authorities on Thursday confirmed there was a power outage on the train line between Xierqi to Life Science Park stations on the Changping line. Reuters was not able to confirm when the footage was filmed.
