1:23Now PlayingFor more than three years, the Indian film “Satluj” has been stuck in limbo. Its director says India's film regulatory body refused to allow its release in cinema halls unless he made more than 120 cuts. When an Indian streaming platform released the film discreetly earlier this month, it too was forced to take it down.
Officials quoted in local media say the film's portrayal of a separatist insurgency in the Indian state of Punjab is one-sided and could be misused for separatist propaganda. But in India, many are pushing back against the ban — by organizing mass screenings and sharing the film on social media.
