1:46Now PlayingGet your own shark for #SharkWeek! We recently hosted researcher Duncan Irschick (@duncanirschick) of the Digital Life Project (@digitallife3D) on #Alucia as he taught Bahamian scientists from Cape Eleuthera Institute (@ceibahamas) about his groundbreaking technology known as Beastcam.
Beastcam captures snapshots of live animals from all angles to form a cohesive 3D model, similar to the technology that video game designers use to create lifelike renders of humans. Usually, to get the amount of information you get from Beastcam, scientists would have to either capture or kill a specimen.
This tech is not only used to study species from afar like never before, but can also be viewed in AR, VR, or even 3D printed.
You can make your own using the Sketchfab app (search "oceanx") or head to to download and 3Dprint your own.
