6:31Now PlayingPalau holds one of the richest marine ecosystems on Earth. It also protects it more ambitiously than almost any other nation, with a commitment to safeguard 80% of its waters. To support that effort, OceanX brought together scientists from Palau and around the world for a comprehensive expedition across the full water column.
The team surveyed unexplored habitats from the surface to the deep sea, documented megafauna including sharks and whales, discovered new species, and used environmental DNA (eDNA) to detect life that cameras and nets alone would miss. The findings will contribute directly to Palau's conservation planning and marine protected area management.
