We're all prone to bias, which is a form of cognitive distortion. However, there is a bias so prevalent that psychologists have given it a special name: the fundamental attribution error. I explain what this error is in my most recent episode, "The most common cognitive bias." Almost certainly, it is operating in your life, and -- to the extent that it's active -- to your detriment. This is because it robs you of the opportunity for appropriate self-development, and corrodes your ability to maintain harmonious relationships with others.
