'Combating the Third Colonialism'
A former KGB agent turned business tycoon and philanthropist, Alexander Lebedev was one of the ten richest Russians. Alongside his great success in the world of investment banking, Lebedev has had a very active political career, co-forming the Independent Democratic Party of Russia with former Soviet Union president Mikhail Gorbachev. Lebedev and Gorbachev are also the co-owners of the infamous Novaya Gazeta, the most vocal anti-government publication in Russia. Today Lebedev Holdings has majority ownership of both The Independent (which he bought for £1) and the Evening Standard.
The title of his talk will be 'Combating the Third Colonialism, based on the global system of corruption, fraud and money laundering.'
