Over 200 immigration judges have been pushed out in the past year, replaced with what some are calling “deportation judges.” ⚖️ The goal is more removals and more people kept in detention. Some judges were removed mid-hearing with no explanation. Others were locked out of their systems within seconds and escorted out. New hires include lawyers with little or no immigration experience, under pressure to produce certain outcomes. 😔 Meanwhile, around 60,000 people remain detained, most with no criminal record, and tens of thousands are challenging their detention in federal court.
