Simon’s powerful memoir began with a series of Tweets he posted in July 2013 from his dying mother’s intensive care bedside. Reporting on her condition and reflecting on her life, Simon, the award-winning NPR correspondent and host of Weekend Edition Saturday, drew millions of followers with his vivid and loving accounts of a woman who had worked in nightclubs, dated mobsters, known movie stars, and been a devoted mother.
