Combining his literary skills and musical interests, McBride traces the life of the legendary James Brown (1933 – 2006), separating myth from truth, and celebrating the remarkable achievements and legacy of the Godfather of Soul from his start in Gospel through his 1960s peak with Live at the Apollo and on to his title as the most sampled artist some six decades later.
