Writing with Seth Solomonow, former chief media strategist for the New York City Transportation Department and now with Bloomberg Associates, Sadik-Khan shows how urban space can be re-allocated in ways that drastically improve city life. Rather than reconstructing neighborhoods, Sadik-Khan has “read” them differently, for instance by adding bike paths and making crosswalks more visible, changes that have led to safer streets, increased foot traffic, and thriving shop-front businesses. Her approach has been adopted in cities around the world, from Austin to Mexico City.
