Green traces the rise of the populist movement and Bannon’s role in it over the past six years, and points to Trump’s selection of Bannon—who had no experience running a national political campaign—to lead what looked, in August 2016, like a failing effort to win the presidency, as the decision that turned the election in Trump’s favor.
