22:35Now PlayingYour survival and wellbeing should always come first. This is self-love.
Survival and wellbeing are not the same as pleasure.
When there is a conflict between your survival and wellbeing and percepts of social conduct – your survival and wellbeing prevail.
Examples:
Do no harm – except to prevent harm to yourself and to others.
Treat others as you want them to treat you – but avoid people-pleasing and self-sacrifice as well as grandiosity, paranoia, and other mental health pathologies.
Percepts of social conduct are not the same as tenets of morality. They are both context-dependent, but social scripts are transient and moral edicts are more constant, some are even immutable.
If your survival conflicts with morality – what course of action to choose it is up to you.
If your wellbeing conflicts with morality – always choose morality. There are adverse consequences if you were to act antisocially or criminally (from reputational damage and shunning to being fired or incarcerated).
