2:23Now PlayingTheRebel.media's Middle East correspondent Igal Hecht reports:
While much of the world ignored the Syrian refugee crisis until recently, Israel has been helping those effected by the civil war since the beginning.
The IDF's Deputy Surgeon General, Col Dr. Tarif Bader, talks about "lending a helping hand over hostile borders." He explains that Israel -- which shares a border with Syria -- has treated more than 1500 Syrians in the Golan Heights and hospitals in the northern part of Israel.
"For us it doesn't matter if they were fighters or not. (...) They are suffering people, they are our neighbours, even though relations between Israel and Syria are not a state of peace."
(Cameraman: Lior Cohen)
