Sheila Gunn Reid of TheRebel.Media reports:
The Rebel was at the Rally against bill 6 in Red Deer on Tuesday.
The rally was held prior to the information session about the NDP’s bad farm safety legislation. The session was held to provide farmers with information about the new law that would force them to provide WCB coverage and adhere to OHS regulations and labour laws on their farms.
The farmers and ranchers I spoke to are concerned and opposed to this legislation and are upset that they weren't included in the talks that led to the drafting of this bill.
The room government officials rented for the information session was too small, holding 500 people, so another couple hundred farmers were left standing outside, waiting to be heard. Yes, bureaucrats that can't plan enough chairs for a meetings want to tell farmers how to farm.
And it didn't get any better from there.
The Minister sent outside to talk to the farmers was Danielle Larivee. She's the Minister of Municipal Affairs. That's right. They sent the minister in charge of cities and towns to talk to the rural farmers about Bill 6. But that’s exactly how this government does things. First it was environmentalists lecturing the oil patch, now it's urbanites lecturing rural people.
The overwhelming sentiment among those gathered Tuesday was that farmers and ranchers feel like they aren't being heard. They're planning more rotating rallies until they're listened to. Their message is: Kill Bill 6.
I wonder though, if these farmers and ranchers and their families at these rallies and information sessions were nurses and other public sector union employees, would this NDP government be so quick to push through such a law on them?
I don’t think so.
