Brian Lilley of TheRebel.Media reports:
Over the Christmas break while people were rightly thinking about anything but politics and news, the story of democratic reform broke as the Trudeau Liberals doubled down on their promise to change our voting system without a referendum.
We immediately launched a petition at LetUsVote.ca and you responded. So far, nearly 10,000 people have signed, which is amazing, but we need it to be bigger.
We need it to be 50,000 or more Canadians telling the government that we demand a vote before the electoral system is changed.
This isn’t just me at the Rebel saying this and it’s not a left or right issue, or a conservative vs liberal issue but about democracy.
In the last week we've heard from long-time Liberals like Ujjal Dosanjh, Gordon Gibson and Warren Kinsella who all recognize the fundamental problem with changing the voting system without a referendum or a unanimous vote in Parliament.
The Trudeau government is calling this democratic reform but it seems they want to skip the democratic part of it. We need to tell them “NO” and demand that voters have an opportunity to have their say.
Whether you support changing the electoral system or keeping it the way it is, the people of Canada should get to vote on any changes.
If you have already signed the petition, thank you. If you have not please sign it now at LetUsVote.ca.
We need 50 thousand or more to sign on to this petition so we need you to share this petition, share the page at LetUsVote.ca with five of your friends by email, share this on Facebook, on Twitter, tell your friends about it over a coffee or beer.
Those that want democratic reform without having a democratic vote are already organizing. Lead Now is pushing for this to go through as is. But a vague promise for some kind of change, a short line in an election platform in an election the winning party took with just 39 percent of the vote is not a mandate for change.
Help spread the word to as many Canadians as you can.
