Rep. Lewis also stated that the Democratic presidential candidate's comments were not offensive and explained that he also worked with people who opposed his civil rights.
Despite Rep. Lewis laying down some cover fire for Biden, the controversy continues to embroil the presumptive Democratic presidential front-runner.
Sen. Cory Booker reportedly spoke with Biden over the phone about the controversy and according to media reports, the call did not go well.
