These closures are putting on a strain on the faith based community and houses of worship that rely on their members gifts.
Some churches opened their doors this past weekend for Sunday service against the recommendations of various government officials, medical practitioners, the CDC and the WHO.
Rev. Dewey Smith, Senior Pastor of the House of Hope Atlanta had some choice words for those who kept their doors open amid the COVID-19 outbreak.
In a now viral video, Smith said the House of Hope kept their doors closed because "We didn't want to risk our susceptible demographic -- those who are over 60, because all the scientists in medicine people are telling us -- Health, CDC, WHO -- all of the organizations are saying this thing is a pandemic."
He continued, "So for us to have a global pandemic and risk our membership we felt that will lover our members enough to let them stay safe, to follow the doctor's recommendations. And then trust that God will meet the needs. And I'm just believing and trusting God, that if we put people first -- So just because somebody had church -- sometimes people use those scriptures and twist them because they need the offering."
