Florida state Rep. Angie Nixon says the affordability crisis is hitting Floridians from every direction. “People can no longer afford to be alive,” she says, pointing to medical debt, health care costs, housing, rent and property insurance while families work harder and still struggle to get ahead.
Nixon is running for the Democratic nomination for U.S. Senate and says her campaign is countering a major fundraising disadvantage by knocking on doors, building coalitions and organizing across the state. She criticizes her primary opponent for refusing to debate, skipping events and running away from questions, while arguing that showing up for voters matters more than having the biggest campaign account.
She also takes aim at Donald Trump, Ashley Moody, Ron DeSantis, wealthy donors and corporations, arguing that policies benefiting the rich are leaving everyday people behind. Nixon says health care is a right, supports Medicare for All and universal child care, calls for an end to for-profit prisons, and says political power should be in the hands of working people instead of billionaires.
Nixon makes Black economic policy part of her case for the Senate. She says nearly 800,000 Black people have lost jobs, points to persistent racial wage and wealth gaps, and says the country needs “a black agenda” that directly benefits Black people.
