America loves snake oil salesmen. Dr. Oz is running for US Senate in Pennsylvania and he is already within two points of the favorite John Fetterman. Oz doesn't live in PA but he sees an opportunity now that Trump's pick Sean Parnell had to bow out of the race.

Matt: I just saw this by the way I got my politico playbook email but this is disturbing. data for the progress I did a poll it's still early obviously but found that in Pennsylvania john Fetterman is only leading by two points in a head-to-head general election matchup between him and doctor Oz.

Emma: I knew you were gonna say it.

Matt: Oh my god. What is wrong with people? come on. This shouldn't be hard.

Brandon: Dr. Oz is America's doctor. when you have a society as alienated from their own health care as we are and with a celebrated culture putting a doctor on television is like yes that's a very powerful thing. to do it's like he was you know he's America's doctor listen.

Matt: I get that Trump guys have a weird charisma. I would even get it if it was Dr. Phil because he's got that whole good old boy from down south thing going on. but what is dr oz providing them? Nothing.

Emma: I don't see anything anti-vax. I mean, he's got a television smoothness to him.

Matt: He said he seems like he has the most cliche like if you were to look up like a snake oil salesman in the dictionary he is the perfect encapsulation. he's got the look and everything. like you know it's just so bizarre to me.

Matt: where on earth have snake oil salesmen had more success than the United States of America?

Matt: That's true, yeah.

Emma: I mean and they love celebrities. They love degrees that appeal to authority. I mean look at all these like you know CEOs and doctors that try to run as republicans. and like the and they love the fact that he's talking about medical freedom. Boom.

Brandon: Well yeah I mean I think that you know Matt's point although I'm not sure who's worse, Dr. Phil or dr oz. You know, I think that Americans are unique, you know, enculturated for these things to happen in a way that they don't necessarily happen outside of this country. where you know with people like Donald Trump and like other reality stars or celebrities getting so heavily involved in politics at that level. and then we've just failed to acknowledge it. I think half the time that you know it's not as though this is a reasonable or unreasonable thing. it's just like this is what American culture looks like you know you're taught to just attach a certain level of intelligence and morality to people who have certain positions. you know certain levels of fame. And when eventually they try to transition from just being that guy on television who you recognize from like the Oprah channel to like a politician who has a real say in the government. People are just ready to accept that because that's just what we support. I think you know our society comes pre-ready to accept celebrity politicians as you know our new messiahs.

Emma: Yeah exactly.

Matt: That is a question for the ages too. By the way, who's the worst dr filler Dr. Oz, probably Dr. Phil?
