YouTube Description
as posted by the channelHouse Budget Committee Chairman Jodey Arrington (R-TX) recently called for work requirements for people receiving public assistance, saying that it is a "fundamental responsibility and expectation, certainly, of the American people.”
Arrington's comments are completely out of touch with the reality of working families in America. Many working families are struggling to make ends meet, and they do not have the time or resources to take on additional work requirements.
In fact, a study by the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities found that work requirements would actually harm working families by reducing their income and making it harder for them to get ahead.
Arrington's comments are also a slap in the face to the millions of Americans who rely on public assistance to get by. Many are hard-working people who are just trying to provide for their families. They do not deserve to be punished for being poor.
It is time to stop punishing working families and start investing in them. The US government needs to make sure that everyone has the opportunity to succeed, regardless of their income.
