1:26Now PlayingSenate Judiciary Chairman Patrick Leahy today met with President Obama, Vice President Obama, Senator Harry Reid, Senator Mitch McConnell and Senator Jeff Sessions to discuss the upcoming nomination process for the next Supreme Court justice. Leahy confirmed that he was confidant that he could complete both the judiciary hearing and nomination done by the congressional August recess. The Chairman also compared the length of time it has taken previous Congresses to confirm Supreme Court nominees with this year's Senate. "I did note that when Justice Stevens was nominated by a conservative, Republican president, the heavily Democratic U.S. Senate had him confirmed in two and a half weeks from the time he was nominated," said Leahy. "I think we can agree that may not happen now but we should be able to do that in the same amount of time that we took for Justice Sotomayor and Justice Roberts."
