Democrats Urge GOP To Abandon Plan To Cut Medicare & Medicaid To Give Tax Cuts To Millionaires

U.S. Senate and House Democrats urge their Republican colleagues to abandon their plan to cut Medicare and Medicaid in order to fund tax cuts for the rich. The Democrats also release a new report showing just how devastating the GOP’s tax and budget proposals would be for hardworking Americans. The report shows that the Republican plan includes massive tax cuts for the top 1 percent and largest corporations while dealing a massive blow to the middle class. In fact, the GOP plan would increase the deficit by $1.5 trillion while cutting more than $5 trillion over the next decade from education, health care, affordable housing, child care, nutrition assistance, transportation, and other programs that working people rely on. Senate and House Democrats say a plan that provides tax relief for the richest few while slashing vital programs middle class Americans desperately need, like Medicare and Medicaid, will be met dead on arrival with the American people.
