In Calhoun County, Senator Scott speaks with Gary Jones, the first African American grocery franchise owner in the state of South Carolina. Their exchange featured lessons in entrepreneurship, Opportunity Zones, and accessing food in rural communities. Many communities in South Carolina are considered to be food deserts, and Mr. Jones’ work is an excellent example of the limitless potential of Opportunity Zones.
Senator Scott’s office is taking submissions for stops on his county tour. South Carolina residents are encouraged to offer suggestions on unique parts of their county. Ideas can be submitted at countytour@scott.senate.gov
