Donald Trump said during his election campaign he was looking at raising tariffs on foreign goods by around 10%.
However, New Jersey governor Phil Murphy - a Democrat - says he believes Mr Trump may consider excluding "renegade" UK from the tariffs because of Brexit.
And Chief Secretary to the Treasury, Darren Jones, told Sky News the president-elect recognised the importance of the special relationship with the UK.
